The “Beaning of LIfe”
When I die (hopefully in many decades, peacefully in my bed surrounded by grandchildren):
I think I may look back and reflect on my life. Most likely, I wont really think about my shoes or my bank account. Most likely my Super Bowl-era Saints Jersey or my Louis Armstrong records won’t matter much then either.
I’ll hopefully think about my family, especially my children. And then, I’ll probably think about the actions I chose in life. The effort I made at community. Maybe this will be a main way to figure out if a good life was lived. Did it matter? Did it make a difference?
I think finding this meaning in life is maybe the point of it all. It’s certainly the purpose of the bean parade I believe. To help our community and our neighbors. To make a difference and try to make things slightly better off. If we do that - then we can look back with pride and a sense of peace.
That, I believe, is the “Beaning of life”
